Even though it’s close to the famous Kinkaku-ji Temple, Aman Kyoto feels far away from the busy streets.

The rooms and buildings are spread out around the garden, so you get lots of privacy and feel surrounded by nature.

My favorite part was for sure the spa! Soaking in a steaming hot spring (Onsen) outside in the garden was amazing.
They also have two restaurants – one serving delicious Japanese traditional dishes Omakase and another with yummy Kyoto-style cuisine and Western dishes .
“The Living Pavillion” serves up stunning Japanese cuisine, while “Taka-An“ offers delicious Italian dishes made with fresh, local ingredients.

This is the biggest and most secluded room at Aman Kyoto!
Tucked away high up in the resort, surrounded by nature, the Washigamine Pavilion offers stunning views of the entire garden and the Hieizan mountains in the distance.
It’s designed to feel like a traditional Japanese Ryokan inn, with lots of natural light and beautiful wood finishes.

Takagamine Pavilion: Relax in Nature Your Own Space

Perched on elevated land, this east-facing pavilion resembles traditional Japanese Ryokan inns. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the garden and distant Hieizan mountain.
What’s inside?
✔ Sitting atop a six-meter-tall handcrafted stone wall, the pavilion provides stunning views of the surrounding maple and cedar forest.
✔ With 226 square meters (2433 square feet) of space, it includes a living room, traditional Tatami room, Western dining area, and kitchen.
✔ Two en-suite bedrooms feature natural wood accents, floor-to-ceiling windows, and tatami flooring. Guests can opt for futons in the Tatami room for a more traditional Ryokan experience.

⛩️Koetsu-ji Temple
Famous for its beautiful garden and maple trees, Koetsu-ji Temple honors Honami Koetsu, a master calligrapher, ceramic artist, and the founder of the Rinpa School of painting. Originally serving as a mausoleum for the Honami family, it was later transformed into a Nichiren Temple in 1656 after Koetsu’s passing.

The garden at Genko-an Temple is renowned for its two ‘windows of realization’ – one round and one square – and offers some of the finest views in Kyoto. This quaint Zen Buddhist temple is also distinguished by its ceiling, crafted from wood reclaimed from Fushimi Castle in the 16th century.”

Since it’s so secluded, getting there by bus or train can be tricky. Taxis are easy to find, but they cost extra.
The rooms are beautiful and very Japanese, but some people might find them a little plain.
